# Grudges

> A hero who sees an ally die remembers who did it.

A hero who watches an ally die does not forget it. They take a grudge against the species that did it, and they carry it from run to run until they have taken their revenge.

He remembers who did it.

## How a grudge starts

A grudge starts when a hero sees an ally die in front of them. They have to see it happen. The grudge is held against the killer's species, so a hero who sees a goblin kill their ally holds a grudge against all goblins. It is not tied to that one goblin, and it does not spread to a whole family of monsters.

## What a grudge does

> [card] They hit harder
>
> A hero deals 25% more damage to a species they hold a grudge against.

> [card] They go for it first
>
> They target that species first. A vengeful hero does it more surely than a forgiving one.

## How a grudge ends

A grudge clears once the hero has killed enough of that species. The kills can come over several runs, because a grudge survives from one run to the next.

| Species | Kills to clear the grudge |
| - | - |
| Goblin | 10 |
| Orc | 8 |
| Wild beast | 6 |
| Any other species | 10 |

A kill from lingering damage the hero caused still counts, as long as that hero is alive when it lands.

Ending a grudge is a moment in itself. For some heroes the debt is paid. For others, the quiet after was smaller than the rage.

## Up to three at once

A hero holds at most three grudges. If they take a fourth, it replaces the oldest one.

## Everyone can see it

A hero's grudges are visible to anyone, along with how many kills each one has left. When you put a party together, it is worth a look: a hero with a grudge against goblins is the one you want in the Goblin Mines.
